Grant Money to Help Fix-Up Albemarle County Houses

Posted: Updated:

New grant money will allow Albemarle County to rebuild two homes in dire need of a fix-up. Albemarle County and the Albemarle Housing Improvement Program (AHIP) received more than $185,000 from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development to fix two of the county's most decrepit homes.

Both have significant structural issues, and no indoor plumbing, and will be rebuilt from the ground up.

AHIP Executive Director Jennifer Jacobs said, "A lot of times people are shocked to hear that here in Albemarle County there are still houses with no indoor bathrooms. But we actually rebuilt a house last year that had no indoor bathrooms, and both of these do not."

AHIP is still in the planning phases of the project. It expects to break ground next month, and wrap up work by the beginning of the summer.
