The city of Charlottesville is celebrating its 250th birthday by investing in the future. The city is partnering with Charlottesville Gas and the Local Energy Alliance Program for a campaign called "Energize!250"
Professionals will provide no-cost or low-cost energy audits to 250 homes in the next 250 days. The goal is to help homeowners achieve an average of 10 percent energy efficiency.
Homeowner Laura Merricks is the first person to take advantage of the services. "I think it's a great idea. Obviously, it saves money, it saves energy. All that's a good thing and it's also just informing people. A lot of people don't know what it takes to save energy," she said.
Merricks says she is going to insulate around her doors and have the heating and cooling system updated to reach 10 percent.
There are 249 slots available. For more information on the Energize!250 program, email info@leap-va.org.
