Charlottesville Job Fair

Posted: Updated:

If you or someone you know is looking for a job, the Charlottesville Community Job Fair might be the answer. Organizers are gearing up for at least 1300 people to walk through the doors of John Paul Jones Arena Wednesday, ready and eager to see what's out there.

This year's spring job fair will feature about 90 employers from a wide scope of industries, offering up all levels of positions.

While a scene crowded with that many employers and job seekers may be intimidating to some, Charlottesville economic development specialist Hollie Lee has some advice for anyone looking to take advantage of the resources at hand.

"Its really important to come prepared," Lee said.

And prepared can mean many things. First, Lee stresses dressing for success. She says looking professional can help make that good first impression.

Also, Lee encourages job seekers coming to the fair to bring plenty of copies of their resume, and to do research on the companies they're interested in ahead of time.

"Every little 60 second introduction that you do is like a little mini interview," Lee explained. "It's your chance to really sell yourself to the employer, so you should really come prepared and take it extremely seriously."

Employers may not be ready to hand out jobs on the spot, but Lee says networking at this kind of event is just as important.

"I think you should walk into the door as if you're going for your interview, as if this is an interview and this is an opportunity for you," Lee said.

The job fair runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at JPJ on Wednesday. You do not need to be pre-registered to attend. For more on the employers in attendance or general event information, click here.
