Albemarle planners have approved new rules that could make it easier to own a bed and breakfast in the county.
The proposal passed at Tuesday night's planning commission meeting. It changed regulations for rural tourist lodging.
The current rule only allows the management of five rooms in a single dwelling. This approved plan gives owners and operators more flexibility, allowing them to manage rooms in adjacent buildings.
Albemarle Director of Planning Wayne Cilimberg said, "We've heard that there are some property owners who would like to utilize something like a room over a garage, or a room that is detached from the house."
The plan is in line with a focus on creating a welcoming atmosphere for agritourism and agribusiness in the county.
