Young Spenders Get Money Management Lesson

Posted: Updated:

Young spenders got a special lesson in money management Tuesday morning. A substitute teacher from Union First Market Bank stopped by Venable Elementary School to talk to second and fourth graders about saving and how going green can bank them some extra cash.

While the students are probably not balancing their own checkbooks,  it is important to start teaching budgeting basics now, in a way the young consumers can relate to and apply in their lives.

Amy Goetting of Union First Market Bank said, "It's crucial. You have to have a safety net. Beginning that as a child, you know, you get to learn that saving money can be fun because you get a reward at the end of it. And hopefully those habits carry through as an adult so you can save money."

About 85 kids took part in the savings lessons.

Union First Market Bank has been going into Venable classrooms for the past four years.
