Photographers, get your cameras handy! Whether you do it professionally or just for fun, you have a chance to cash in on the shots you snap.
The Charlottesville Albemarle Convention And Visitors' Bureau (CACVB) wants people to get out with their cameras and capture the area as best as they can. Not only do you get to see the sights and hold on to your own keepsakes, but winning photos score a $1000 prize.
CACVB is calling for amateur and professional photographers to enter the "Capture Charlottesville And Albemarle" photo contest. This not only gets people playing tourist in their own neighborhood, but also gives the bureau a collection of quality images to use when drawing visitors to the area.
CACVB's director of sales and marketing Brigitte Belanger-Warner said, "We are really excited to see what people come up with, and we want people to feel like they can submit as many photos as they want in as many categories as they want."
The competition covers a wide gamut of themes, including landscape photography, wedding pictures, shots of city life and recreation, sports photos, pictures showing off agriculture, and more. There is also a special award for the photo that best shows off how to "play like a local", in light of the bureau's push for people to take "backyard vacations".
"We want people to enjoy what there is to see and do here around Charlottesville and Albemarle County," Belanger-Warner said.
The top four entries will received $1000 a piece, and 10 runner-ups will get $100 each. Click here for entry details and forms.
All eligible photos have to be emailed or dropped off by June 14, and winners will be announced June 29.
