Virginia Tech Fires Seth Greenberg

Posted: Updated:

Virginia Tech head basketball coach Seth Greenberg has been fired after nine seasons as Hokie head coach Monday.

Virginia Tech reportedly will have to pay Greenberg $1.2 million to buy out the remaining four years on his contract.

Greenberg had a record of 170-123 as Virginia Tech head coach and made the NCAA Tournament once in the 2006-07 season.

In 2011-12, VT had a record of 16-17, only the second time the Hokies finished with a sub-.500 record under Greenberg, failing to reach postseason play for the first time in six seasons.

Since the end of this past season, two of Greenberg's top three assistant coaches have left the program as well as his director of basketball operations.

Six of Greenberg's assistants have left Tech in the last four years.
