Greene County's weeklong spring road cleanup has wrapped up and organizers say they're thrilled with the results.
Volunteers, the sheriff's office, Virginia Department of Transportation crews, and "work gangs" from the regional jail picked up trash along more than 100 sections of primary and secondary roads across Greene County.
Cleanup coordinator Carl Schmitt said, "If we all band together and share the work load we can actually do something that improves the looks of things and makes us all feel better about the county."
Now the county's goal is to keep it that way. Crews collected hundreds of pounds of trash, more than 50 tires, even found furniture tossed along the roads. Organizers say they hope these cleaner roads will encourage others to think twice before littering.
