At the Tech Softball Park Sunday afternoon, Virginia Tech rallied to beat Virginia 4-3 in the rubber game of the weekend series in Blacksburg.
The Cavaliers drop to 21-23 overall, 6-12 in ACC play this season.
The Hokies improve to 34-16 overall, 11-6 in the ACC.
After three scoreless innings, UVA put up three runs in the top of the fourth inning. Sophomore Marcy Bowdren's RBI single made it 1-0 'Hoos. Later in the inning with two outs, Alexa Martinez hit a double to score Alex Skinkis and Bowdren to put Virginia up 3-0.
Tech responded with all four of its runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Hokies hit back-to-back home runs, a two-run shot from Kelsey Mericka followed by a solo homer from Betty Rose. Later in the inning, Kat Banks hit a sacrifice fly that scored Logan Spaw for the game-winning run.
Junior Melanie Mitchell pitched a complete game for the Cavs. She allowed four runs with four strikeouts in the loss.
Virginia Tech's Jasmin Harrell gave up three runs (one earned) with eight strikeouts to earn the win.
Taylor Williams went 3-for-4 at the plate in the loss.
Martinez added a single to her two-RBI double.
Virginia returns to action Wednesday night. The 'Hoos host Liberty for a doubleheader starting at 5:00 at The Park.
