People who live near the Greenwood Post Office in Albemarle County are fighting to keep it open. The United States Postal Service is planning to move the letter carrier who works out of the Greenwood Post Office to the Crozet office.
Neighbors think this might be the first step toward closing the post office all together. They met Wednesday night to talk about ways to make sure the postal service knows they think that's a bad idea.
Scott Peyton, a supporter of saving the post office, said, "We are quite convinced by the research that we've done that these preliminary and interim steps will ultimately lead to a full closure of the post office in due time."
In a statement, the postal service says it has no plans to close the post office, and moving the carrier to Crozet will have no effect on mail delivery.
