Waynesboro police are on the hunt for a gunman who critically wounded another man Tuesday morning, then drove away.  The suspect, 26-year-old Samuel Kevin Bridge, is already a convicted felon, and investigators warn he may be armed and dangerous.

The victim in this case is 37-year-old Jeremiah James Woodson.  He's listed in critical but stable condition at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Woodson suffered two gunshot wounds to the upper chest from a large-caliber handgun, and police say he knew the man who pulled the trigger.

As officers pulled into Quadrangle Apartments on 4th Street, they found the victim lying on the parking lot.  The shooting had taken place about 2:30 a.m. - moments after Woodson and Bridge arrived.

Investigator Robert Luzader with Waynesboro police explained, "The suspect remained in the vehicle.  The victim exited his vehicle, walked over.  There was some sort of argument that began between them.  He was standing outside the car when the gunshots were fired."

Bridge faces malicious wounding and three firearms charges.  Police are knocking on doors of his known associates in the Waynesboro and Charlottesville areas.

"Just trying to tighten that circle, that noose as tightly as we can till someone comes forward," said Luzader.

Waynesboro police have already interviewed potential witnesses at Quadrangle.  They say neither the victim nor shooter lived at the apartments, and may have chosen the location at random for their meeting.

"There were other people present when this occurred," stated Luzader.  "Some of the gunshots also placed them at risk, along with the people in the apartment complex itself."

Waynesboro police say Bridge - and at least one other man - were in a dark-green or blue Saturn four-door sedan, possibly with tinted windows. If you know of his whereabouts or anything about the shooting, call Waynesboro police or Crime Stoppers at 800-322-2017.
