Charlottesville's Meals on Wheels program had a special guest on one of its routes Wednesday.
Charlottesville Mayor Satyendra Huja joined Meals on Wheels longtime volunteer Norman Carpenter to deliver hot food and a little company to people who need it.
Carpenter has been helping people in need every Wednesday since Meals on Wheels started in 1977. Mayor Huja helped start the program in and around Charlottesville.
They started their day at the Kluge Children's Rehabilitation Center on Ivy Road. They grabbed their meals and headed to Crescent Hall to serve people in need.
Hassan Sadiq Li who lives at Crescent Hall said, "It's hot when I get it, it's really hard for me to make something, like cooking."
For many of us, making a meal is a simple task. But for folks at Crescent Hall, it's often anything but simple.
Mayor Huja says it's a "win-win" situation because he feels happy and so do the people getting the meals.
In a statement, the president and CEO of Meals on Wheels thanked leaders like Mayor Huja for stepping up and joining their effort to end senior hunger in America by 2020.
