Husband of Virginia Woman Killed by Officer Plans to Sue

Posted: Updated:

The husband of a woman fatally shot by a Culpeper police officer plans to sue the town.

The Culpeper Star-Exponent reports that lawyers representing Gary Cook sent a letter to the mayor earlier this month informing him that Cook plans to file a lawsuit.

A police officer shot and killed Cook's wife, 54-year-old Patricia A. Cook, on Feb. 9. Virginia State Police say she drove off with the officer's arm trapped in her vehicle's window and refused his orders to stop. She died at the scene.

Fauquier County Commonwealth's Attorney Jim P. Fisher has been appointed as special prosecutor for the case.

Fisher tells the newspaper that the investigation is a top priority but it will take time to complete.

The officer hasn't been identified. Information from: Culpeper Star-Exponent, http://www.starexponent.com
