Update:
The Albemarle County Fire Marshall's Office says the investigation is focusing on the house's water heater. The damage to the home was significant with smoke damage throughout the home and fire damage to the first floor. Investigators say the house is not a total loss, but will need major repairs before it is livable. Officials say two cats died in the fire.
Albemarle County firefighters battled a house blaze in Crozet Sunday night. Fire crews got the call around 4:00 to the home in the 1000 block of Old Fox Trail Lane.
Neighbors say they saw smoke coming from the three-story house and heard windows shattering. Firefighters believe the blaze may have started in the basement before spreading.
No one was home at the time and there's no estimate on the amount of damage.
