Touch screens and high-tech laboratories at schools are on the verge of leaving multiple choice tests and chalkboards in the dust.
An innovation lounge at Brownsville Elementary in Albemarle County is using all types of technology so students are 21st century ready.
The space is called the Busy Bee Lounge, and its changing the way students learn.
"Wherever you are, you have the opportunity to learn," said Principal India Haun.
Albemarle County's superintendent's new priority is called 'Learning Spaces.' In the past, classrooms revolved around multiple choice testing and memorization. Students tell us they prefer using technology to learn because its fun and making classrooms much different.
The Busy Bee Lounge leaves guided instruction in the dust. Haun explains, "It can be self exploratory discovery learning."
According to Haun, "Developing partnerships, teamwork, and communication are some of the career skills that they support when they work together or by themselves."
Brownsville Elementary is one of the first schools in Albemarle County with a learning space but the superintendent hopes to have one in every school in the near future.
