The University of Virginia Medical Center is now 72 rooms larger. The public got its first look at the new hospital rooms on Thursday.
The rooms will provide patients with ample lighting, a full handicap-accessible bathroom, and a comfortable couch for a family member to use. More importantly, all rooms are state of the art.
Edward Howell with the UVA Medical Center said, "This is all ICU capable, so its got all of the infrastructure systems such as gas and ventilation and special electricity that allows us to provide 21st century medicine right here in Charlottesville."
The extra rooms provide additional capacity to renovate the hospital's existing intensive care unit (ICU), while continuing to give care for critically ill patients.
