The town of Mineral is planning for a May concert date from country crooner Alan Jackson. The earthquake-damaged town won the free concert in an online contest back in October.
Right now, two nearby farms look like the best locations for the performance. Mineral Mayor Pam Harlowe says the singer's promoters and production crew visited the town and toured the possible venues earlier this month.
"Certainly none of them have ever been to Mineral, Virginia," said Harlowe. "So, they've all thought it was exciting to see how all of us local, small town people are sort of family and everybody knows everybody. It's made getting some of the things they need, questions I need to ask, it's been easy for me to take care of."
Harlowe says the concert is scheduled for an undetermined day in May. She expects to hear back from Alan Jackson's team with final details in the next few weeks.
