Budget amendments from the Virginia House of Delegates include $2 million to help Louisa County rebuild two earthquake-damaged schools.
Louisa County High School and Thomas Jefferson Elementary School were forced to close because of damage from the August quake. The House Appropriations Committee unanimously passed its amendments to Governor Bob McDonnell's spending plan Sunday.
"It was an event that was not from mismanagement, not from mismanagement for a number of years. It was an extraordinary event that took 15 seconds to take 40 percent of their school capacity," stated 56th District Delegate Peter Farrell.
The Senate's budget amendments call for a million dollars in relief for Louisa schools. Both houses are expected to vote on their proposals later this week.
