The UVA women's basketball team beat Virginia Tech 66-40 Sunday afternoon at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg.
The Cavaliers improve to 19-9 overall, 7-7 in the ACC with their 12th straight win over Tech.
The Hokies drop to 7-20 overall, 3-11 in ACC play.
Sophomore Ataira Franklin says, "It's definitely a confidence booster for us, as far as getting back to where we want to be defensively, so we're just going to take it from here."
Head coach Joanne Boyle adds, "For us, you got to control your own destiny, and a lot of people don't have that chance right now. We still do, so we'll hold on to that, and work hard for it."
Virginia ended the first half on an 18-4 run to take a 30-16 lead at the break. Virginia Tech didn't get closer than 12 points in the second half.
UVA's Ariana Moorer made all 13 of her free throws to set a program record. The senior guard led the way with 17 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.
Sophomore Ataira Franklin hit three three-pointers and scored eleven points in the win.
Sophomore Jazmin Pitts added ten points and five rebounds for the 'Hoos.
The Cavaliers out-rebounded the Hokies 39-29, improving to 13-0 this season when they win the rebounding battle.
UVA hit 24-of-25 free throws (96%) and 19-of-44 from the field (43%).
The Hokies made 13-of-53 from the field (25%).
Aerial Wilson led Tech with 13 points.
The 'Hoos return to action Friday night. Virginia hosts Wake Forest at 6:30.
