The #22 Virginia men's basketball team outscored Maryland 40-13 in the second half Saturday at John Paul Jones Arena, and crushed the Terps 71-44.
Senior forward Mike Scott scored a career-best 25 points in an ACC game, while also grabbing 7 rebounds.
The win snaps a two-game losing streak for the Cavaliers, who had lost back-to-back games for the first time all season.
Point guard Jontel Evans says, "After those two losses, we definitely needed to come in here and get a win. We got to get our swagger back. Get back on track."
Freshman guard Malcolm Brogdon adds, "I think we came together after those two losses, and said, 'Hey, we're better than that. We need to bounce back,' and that's what we've done."
The score was tied at 31 at halftime, but after a Maryland bucket, Virginia went on a 16-0 run to blow the game wide open.
Head coach Tony Bennett says, "Our guys always give effort, but we knew this would, we'd have to ratchet it up or just turn up the volume a little bit more in terms of our intensity from start to finish, and there just wasn't an option."
"Coach Bennett picked it up, and we followed his lead," says Brogdon. "He picked up the intensity. We had two hard practices, and we came to this game ready."
Virginia (20-6, 7-5 ACC) has now won 20 games for the first time since the 2006-2007 season.
UVA will be back in action Tuesday night, as they play at Virginia Tech at 9pm.
