Stocking Up for the Winter Storm

Posted: Updated:

The threat of snow is sending many to the hardware store to stock up on winter storm supplies.

Martin Hardware in Charlottesville saw a bit of a rush Saturday because of this storm. Store managers are noticing the warm weather kept people going about their normal weekend chores leaving them with a surplus of winter supplies.

Some folks are prepping for the storm by purchasing hot items like shovels and ice melt.

Even though the snow storm is swiftly heading our way, store managers say they're selling more paint, nuts and bolts to customers than the typical winter storm items. The store expects this to change tomorrow - when people actually see the flakes and run out at the last minute.

"Yeah its picked up a little bit today, people getting ice melt and a couple shovels here and there, and its definitely a lot more people then usual," says Chris Davis of Martin Hardware.

"They're kind of in between whether to buy or wait and basically that's why we plan on being open tomorrow, so we can accommodate the customers that don't get here today," says Roger Wood of Martin Hardware.

Depending on how the storm hits they have a great deal of shovels and ice melt in stock due to the lack of winter weather this season. The store says it will not have to stock up on as many winter supplies as it normally would next year.
