Albemarle County police are investigating how a 5-year-old girl ended up in the driver's seat of a car that rolled back, pinning her against a trailer.
The incident happened around 5:30 Friday night on Greenfield Court.
Police say the little girl was sitting in the Ford Taurus with her legs dangling outside when the car drifted back. The girl's legs were trapped when the car hit a trailer.
Rescue crews pulled her out and took her to the University of Virginia Medical Center. Police describe the girl's injuries as non-life threatening.
Sergeant Darrel Byers of the Albemarle County Police Department said, "We don't know right now if this was accident or if this was criminal, we do know that there were some adults on site, but whether or not they were parents is uncertain to us right now."
Albemarle County police say a language barrier is making the investigation more difficult. Officers are working with the commonwealth's attorney to determine any charges.
