The "fruit of the vine" takes the spotlight in Staunton this weekend.
The Second Annual Winter Wine Festival takes place Saturday at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel. Eighteen Virginia wineries will offer their best reds and whites for an afternoon of tasting. There will also be food and chocolates specially chosen for their pairings with wine. The festival is a fund-raiser for the Historic Staunton Foundation.
Frank Strassler of the Historic Staunton Foundation said, "It shows a great sustainable agriculture. And preserves our historic landscapes in the state. And for a town like Staunton to be able to attract a festival like this and to get people here is just wonderful. Our restaurants will be hopping."
In 2011, 600 people attended the first Winter Wine Festival and the foundation hopes to draw even more this year. It runs Saturday from noon to 6:00 p.m..
