The #8 Maryland women's basketball team beat Virginia 73-56 Thursday night at John Paul Jones Arena.
The Terps lead 44-21 at halftime, and by 24 points early in the 2nd half.
Tianna Hawkins connected on 12-of-13 shots from the floor for Maryland, and scored 26 points, while grabbing 14 rebounds.
Hawkins had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the first half.
Teammate Alyssa Thomas added 16 points and 10 rebounds in the game.
Senior Ariana Moorer scored a team-high 23 points for the Cavaliers, while also adding 5 rebounds and 5 steals.
Virginia put together a 10-2 run midway through the second half to cut the deficit to 57-46, but they could never get it to single digits.
Cavaliers head coach Joanne Boyle says, "They came out and played like they were playing for something important down the stretch, and we came out and got punched, and didn't respond until the second half. It's our worst game of the year."
The Wahoos were out-rebounded 53-26 by Maryland.
UVA is now 18-9 overall, 6-7 in the ACC, and will play at Virginia Tech Sunday.
