Jacque Carroll Signs with West Virginia Tech

Posted: Updated:

She admits to being a little goofy and a little quirky, but Jacque Carroll is a serious threat on the court.  At 5 foot 9, she's the top player on the Crusaders basketball team but her true athletic love is volleyball.

Carroll led United Christian this past season in kills and blocks and was named an All-American.

Her volleyball coach at UCA, Ray Powell says, "A great swing on the volleyball.  In fact she hit one this year, that knocked a girl off her feet."

But there's more to Jacque than meets the eye.  Just over a year ago she was in the miss teen USA pageant representing the state of Virginia.

Marty asks, Some girls are kind of girly girls and others are tom boys, where do you fall in there?

Jacque says, "I'm a happy medium, everyone has to have a little something, I always told my mom I want to be good at everything."

She's even had some modeling gigs and a job opportunity in Miami on the table but says her future is not in modeling.  Instead, she hopes to serve as a missionary, in an organization called Score International, using volleyball as a way to spread the word of God.

Jacque says "We take kids from all over for sports in different countries like volleyball, soccer, basketball, and it draws a crowd of Costal Ricans or wherever you are and after the kids are done playing, we are able to Evangelize to masses of people."

Today Carroll signed her national letter of intent to play volleyball at West Virginia Tech, becoming the first from United Christian Academy to earn a volleyball scholarship.  The school retired her number 22 jersey.

Powell says, "I'm as proud of her as if she were my own daughter."

Jacque says, "We're here for a reason, and we only have a limited amount of time. God what do you want me to go do today.. How do you want me to go further your Kingdom."

Carroll will major in psychology at West Virginia Tech.  She says she also hopes to get a degree in biblical counseling at Appalachian Bible School.
