Greene County Schools to Meet with Board of Supervisors

Posted: Updated:

The Greene County School Board and the Greene County Board of Supervisors will meet for the first time Tuesday to discuss how to fill a $2.2 million budget gap.

Both boards have some new members, so the meeting aims to get them up to speed on past financial challenges and the current one. School board members hope to come up with a concrete plan of how to pay for proposed state-mandated expenses.

Greene County School Board Chair Troy Harlow said, "The cuts are so substantial at this point, we literally do not have enough resources or places to cut any further and we're going to have to work with the county."

School board members say Tuesday's meeting is just the starting point. They are dealing with fewer resources and increased enrollment. However, they feel confident that they will find a way to work with supervisors to bridge the budget deficit.
