Preparing to Survive a Natural Disaster

Posted: Updated:

The Ivy Creek Natural Area in Albemarle County became the scene of a natural disaster Sunday, preparing people to survive in the outdoors.

The two-day Wilderness First Aid Responder Certification Course aims to give people knowledge to react to whatever Mother Nature throws our way. Participants broke up into groups of two where they simulated how to care for a skier stranded after an accident on the slopes.

Wilderness medicine instructor Matt Rosefsky explained, "It teaches people how to care for other people who are injured or ill in the time between time of injury to the time they're in the hospital when help isn't immediately coming."

The wilderness certification class will be in session the last weekend in April. Click here if you would like to register.
