UVA sophomore guard Joe Harris has a broken bone in his left (non-shooting) hand.
Harris fractured the hand in Saturday's 70-52 loss at North Carolina.
Virginia's second-leading scorer is will not miss anytime, but will play with the hand protected and closely monitored.
Harris injured his hand in the first half against the Tar Heels, and after being held scoreless in the opening twenty-minutes, came out and hit back-to-back three's to give Virginia the lead early in the second.
The sophomore scored 8 of UVA's 20 second half points.
North Carolina used a 22-to-5 run to pull away from the Cavaliers over the final 15 minutes, and held a 52-to-32 advantage on the boards, including 23-offensive rebounds.
The Tar Heels are the #2 ranked offensive rebounding team in the nation.
UVA head coach Tony Bennett says, "All you have to do is look at the stat sheet. For them, 23 offensive rebounds is too much. That stretch in the second half we really lost our way, as we couldn't get them off the glass, and we had some breakdowns defensively, and didn't execute. For us to have a chance in a game like this, you have to do a better job on the glass. For whatever reason, we struggled. We certainly tried to work at it, preparing for them, but it was alarming how many second shots they got, or third shots, they got in a possession."
"I saw a lot of defensive breakdowns, and not rebounding," says junior point guard Jontel Evans. "A lot of forced opportunities on the offensive end. Just a lot of things that are in our control and we can fix up."
Sophomore forward Akil Mitchell adds, "We kind of lost our way mentally. We made some mistakes, and had some defensive breakdowns. Just some little things we have to tighten up. We'll clean them up on Tuesday."
Virginia will play at Clemson Tuesday at 7pm.
