The #9 Virginia women's tennis team lost 4-2 against #12 Northwestern in the opening round of the ITA National Team Indoor tournament at the Boar's Head Sports Club Friday.
Sixteen of the top 23 teams in the nation are competing in the tournament.
UVA jumped out to a 1-0 lead on the Wildcats by winning the doubles point, but lost the first three singles matches to fall behind 3-1.
#29 Emily Fraser beat #26 Kate Turvy 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) in #1 singles, but Erin Vierra fell 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 against Linda Abu Mushrefova in #5 singles, clinching the match for Northwestern.
UVA drops to the losers bracket, and will face ACC rival Georgia Tech Sunday at 6:30 pm.
