The Peace Corps says the University of Virginia is among the nation's top volunteer producing schools for 2012. Over 60 undergraduate alumni at UVA are serving overseas with the corps.
Campus recruiter and Peace Corps volunteer, Jonathan Moore, says the number of students interested in volunteering has gone up at least 25 percent and he only expects that number to continue to grow.
Moore says, "There's a real focus at UVA on community involvement, on outreach, on giving back, the idea of using your degree and training at UVA in a real world sense, to improve the lives of others."
Moore also stated that students approach him about volunteer work on a daily basis.
Moore says he feels it has everything to do with the Charlottesville community at large encouraging people to focus on what each individual can do to improve the lives of others.
