School Board Members Search for Long Term Leader

Posted: Updated:

Staunton School Board members will soon be searching for a long term leader. Superintendent Steve Nichols resigned under pressure in December.

Edward Clymore took the job on an interim basis, but will stay on only until June. Clymore has recommended board members begin a full-scale search for their next superintendent. They could hire a private firm to assist them, or use the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA).

Staunton School Board member Ron Ramsey said, "We used VSBA before and they've worked well for us. But we're open to all alternatives. We'll see what works best for us and just start punching numbers on that just like we are everything else right now... See where we can get the best bang for the buck."

Ramsey says the next superintendent should be skilled in working tight budgets, active in the community, and willing to stay in Staunton for the "long haul."
