#2 UVA Men's Tennis Gets Set for Big Weekend

Posted: Updated:

The UVA men's tennis team plays its home opener Friday at six o'clock against 17th ranked Texas.  Its part of a big weekend which also has the 'Hoos hosting 5th ranked Florida Saturday and 11th ranked Texas A&M Sunday

UVA freshman Mitchell Franks is already the number one ranked singles player in college tennis.  Right now he's playing number three singles at UVA behind junior Jarmere Jenkins and sophomore Alex Domijan.

Virginia starts this season ranked number two in the nation behind Southern Cal who Virginia lost to in the national finals last year.

Coach Brian Boland says, "It makes you hungry if you want to be a winner, you just get back off the mat and get to work again. I think we have another great team again that's going to make a tremendous run and we're looking forward to the season, not just this weekend. This weekend should help us learn where we are at and then pick up and get better throughout the season."

Franks says, "Hopefully I can help the team and get a lot of wins, but there will definitely be guys who will come out and cut me up a bit. There's a little bit of pressure being the top guy, but its all about managing expectations."
