Charlottesville has made yet another top 10 list, but this is not the honor you might expect. The Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) lists the city in this year's Top 10 Most Endangered Places in the Southeast.
The much-discussed Route 29 Western Bypass earned Charlottesville a spot this year. The SELC says the bypass threatens Charlottesville's landscape and the health of neighbors, but is far from a done deal.
Marie Hawthorne of the SELC said, "It's not a done deal, and it still is possible to stop this project, and we need concerned people to band together with us to make that happen."
Since the bypass came back up for talks last year, the SELC has been staunchly against it.
The Chesapeake Bay and Southside Virginia also made this year's list due to pollution and risks related to uranium mining.
