Two dozen pets in Nelson County face an uncertain future after their owner was murdered back in December. Now, the SPCA and Nelson County Animal Control are stepping in to find homes for the furry victims before it is too late.
It is an extremely uncommon situation, four dogs and 20 cats left to fend for themselves after their owner, 42-year-old Amy Holden, was murdered in mid-December. Since then, 39-year-old Francis Panal Quiros has been charged with the crime, and court proceedings have moved forward, but little has been done to help protect Holden's two dozen pets, until now.
Volunteers and animal lovers are reaching out to find homes for the pets, and they need your help to do it. They say protecting the animals would bring at least one positive outcome to an otherwise tragic story.
Nelson County SPCA volunteer Bette Grahame said, "So we really want to see these animals saved. We want to see all of the adoptable animals saved but we're working right now on this issue because she deserves our help."
Nelson County Animal Control will be the temporary home for the animals while they search for a more permanent solution.
