A chain-reaction crash caused backups for miles on Interstate 64 Tuesday morning.  Because of the crashes, drivers sat at a standstill and then were sent on a detour through western Albemarle County on Route 250.

Five accidents on Interstate 64 are to blame for what became a frustrating commute. Drivers, blinded by a direct drive into the sun, created traffic troubles throughout western Albemarle County Tuesday morning.

Virginia State Police say an accident on eastbound Interstate 64 at the Ivy exit started it all around 8:30. From there, a chain reaction with three more crashes involving a dozen vehicles, turned the interstate into a parking lot.

Police reopened all lanes of Interstate 64 just before 10:00 a.m.. State police say no serious injuries were reported.
