JMRL & NAACP Launch Librarian Scholarship - NBC29 WVIR Charlottesville, VA News, Sports and Weather

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is launching a new scholarship to encourage African American students to become librarians.

Albemarle-Charlottesville Chapter President Rick Turner presented the program to the board of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library Monday.  The scholarship will offer one student each year up to $3,000 to intern with the library system.

Turner said, "It provides an opportunity for them to want to go into library work if they are willing to take upon the opportunity of the details and the study, because library work is very tedious."

The scholarship is open to students in Albemarle, Charlottesville, Greene, Louisa and Nelson.  The library and NAACP are accepting applications now through April 6.
