A group of students and faculty at the University of Virginia is doing its part to make sure people around the world have clean water.
The project is called PureMadi. Professor Jim Smith is heading up the effort to craft clay water filters and teach communities in South Africa how to make their own. That way, they can utilize their limited water sources and make money by building and operating filter factories.
The folks at City Clay are proud to host an exhibit on the effort. The filters are actually made out of the material from right around Charlottesville. The display should be up through the end of the month.
