Update:
The jury trial has been postponed until April 30, and is now slated for four days. The court clerk says the motion for postponement claims that the victim's son, Jedidiah Shifflett, was killed recently in a car crash in Buckingham County.
A jury trial is underway in Albemarle County Circuit Court for a convicted murderer now accused of shooting his girlfriend last March.
John Morris, 53, is facing three felony charges including aggravated malicious wounding.
He was convicted of a 1984 double homicide at the Hardee's on Pantops Mountain, killing Edward Richard Clements and Monte Carl Wanless. Morris was sentenced to 46 years in prison and was subsequently released on parole in January of 2008.
The trial in circuit court is expected to last two days.
