Two people are recovering Monday following an accident just south of Charlottesville. It involved a dump truck and a small sedan, that both ended up deep in the woods.
Albemarle County police say this accident was pretty unusual, but both drivers handled it as well as they could. A blown tire appears to be the culprit.
The accident happened just before noon Monday on Route 20 near Forrest Road. A dump truck blew a tire and the driver lost control, hitting a small blue Toyota before heading into the woods and crashing into a tree. The dump truck driver had to be extricated from the truck.
Both drivers were treated for non life-threatening injuries at the University of Virginia Medical Center and were later released. Police say no charges will be filed.
Route 20 was closed in both directions for more than a hour Monday, while police and rescue worked. Traffic was backed up several miles in both directions.
