Occupy Charlottesville Holds Candlelight Vigil

Posted: Updated:

Occupy Charlottesville gathered around the free speech wall in downtown Charlottesville to prove they still have a message to send more than a month after getting kicked out of their Lee Park Campout.

Sunday night, Occupy organized a candlelight vigil to coincide with the remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King.

Nancy Carpenter, one of the occupiers says they want to "unite our world in a global movement for systemic change." Carpenter added, "The time is now, to get on board with these messages we need to put forth so that people in Charlottesville and the surrounding area will understand why we stand out here tonight in … 30 degree weather."

The movement will also host an event called Occupy The Courts on January 20 at the federal courthouse in Charlottesville. That date marks the second anniversary of a Supreme Court case that lifted limits on corporate funding of political campaigns.
