If you are an AT&T subscriber heading south in Albemarle County, you might notice a signal boost near Scottsville. New cell towers went live earlier this month, which is great news for Albemarle County schools.
We last updated you about plans to build these three new cell towers back in August. As of this month, we know at least two of those towers are up and running.
The project funded by AT&T was originally slated to take about six months, but builders beat those estimates - putting towers up near Scottsville Elementary School and down the road adjacent to Route 20.
The towers provide a much-needed signal near Scottsville, allowing schools like Scottsville Elementary the chance to use next generation classroom tools like iPads, and track the safety of their students on the road.
Albemarle County schools originally requested the towers. Educators say they will help the school system transition to a more paperless environment.
