Two men face charges in Albemarle County following a short police chase.

It happened shortly before two when an officer attempted to pull over a gray Ford Crown Victoria at a motel off Route 29. That's when the driver stepped on the gas and left the scene hitting another car in the process.

The suspects, Mark O. Jones, 26, and Czaqui Q. Jones, 19,  ditched the car on Wayne Avenue and fled on foot. Officers caught them within the hour.

Sergeant Darrell Byers of the Albemarle County Police Department said, "It was a little difficult to find the last one, but again that's a coordinated effort between our officers and communications, but also we did have some help from our city partners as well."

They are facing a number of charges including felony hit and run, evading police, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

 Police have not released mugshots.

The Albemarle County Police Department released the following press release:

The Albemarle County Police attempted to stop a vehicle that was traveling south on Seminole Trail for a minor traffic violation.  As the officers activated their emergency equipment the vehicle sped up turning west on Hydraulic Road.

As the vehicle was turning from Hydraulic on to Cedar Drive it struck an occupied vehicle.  The vehicle continued south on Cedar Drive and then turned right Wayne Avenue.  The vehicle came to an abrupt stop on Wayne Avenue and the occupants fled.

One of the occupants was detained immediately; the other occupant was detained later on Middlesex Drive.

Mark O. Jones, 26 years of age, of Arvonia, Virginia has been charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, felony hit and run and felony eluding.

Czaqui Q. Jones, 19 years of age, of Richmond, Virginia has been charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

The occupants of the vehicle that was struck were not injured. Both suspects are currently being held at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail pending a bond hearing on January 6, 2012 in the Albemarle County General District Court.
