Your donations can provide a warm meal to hungry seniors across central Virginia for the cold winter months. The Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA) is collecting canned foods for its Soup for Seniors Donation Drive.
From now until January 16, you can drop off canned meats, low-salt soups and vegetables at any of the locations listed below.
The last Soup for Seniors Drive collected 2,000 cans, enough to stock the shelves for JABA's Food Bag Program for several months.
Martha Williams, JABA's volunteer services manager stated, "A lot of people can't get out of their homes. They can't just run to the grocery store, order food take-out. So, they depend on what's in their cupboards."
JABA also needs volunteers to sort donations at the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank in Charlottesville on Martin Luther King Day.
Drop-Off Locations: Canned goods may be dropped off at specially marked collection boxes located at:
- JABA, 674 Hillsdale Drive, Charlottesville
- Branchlands
- The Colonnades
- The Independence
- Jefferson Heights
- Martha Jefferson House
- Park View
- The Senior Center, Inc.
- Westminster-Canterbury
- Woods Edge
- Wal-Mart Distribution Center at Zions Crossroads
All donations will go to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank's Charlottesville branch where they will be designated for JABA's Food Bag Program for low-income elderly.
