A major league baseball player who lives in Crozet is helping to consult for a movie being filmed in Charlottesville about the game and how it can change lives.
Former Atlanta Braves pitcher Billy Wagner is slated to assist in the production of "The Home Game," in Charlottesville this summer. On Monday, he met up with producers and the movie's main actor at Total Performance Sports and Fitness in Albemarle County.
Wagner was there to not only tell us about the film, but show actor Robert Amaya, of "Courageous" how to train and act like a professional athlete. The production team brought Wagner on board to keep the acting authentic. In addition, the Virginia based pitcher will wear a producer's hat throughout filming.
Wagner said, "This is a movie that, when I was approached with it about watching it or helping out in any way, I was like, 'yeah, this something that I think sends a good moral message and it's going to be a great movie to see.'"
"The Home Game's" script took first place at the Baltimore Screening Competition. It is a family-friendly movie about a headstrong pro baseball player's journey to finding success in the game of life.
Producers plan to reach out to the community in the coming months to fill extra roles in the movie. Producers say they are currently scouting locations for the film. The University of Virginia and the Miller School's baseball fields are both contenders in addition to other Charlottesville facilities.
