As was promised when it appeared a new carriage agreement with DISH would not be reached before expiration of the current contract, WVIR-TV continued negotiations throughout the day New Year's Eve hoping to achieve an equitable arrangement which would keep NBC29 and CW29 on the DISH Network. Finally, shortly after midnight of New Year's Day, both parties came to agreement on the basic terms of a new contract. They then agreed to a six-day extension of the current agreement, while attorneys for both sides worked out the contract language.
Commenting on the new agreement, WVIR-TV Vice President and General Manager Harold Wright said, "I want to thank the many viewers who contacted DISH to say, ‘we don't want to lose our NBC29'. Their comments brought a greater sense of urgency to the effort to complete negotiations before the deadline. We are extremely pleased that we were able to achieve this new agreement without any loss of service to our DISH viewers".
