Virginia State Police Investigates Fatal Car Accident in Louisa

Saturday, the man behind the wheel of a car involved in a fatal crash Friday in Louisa County, remains in the hospital in critical condition.

That accident happened Friday afternoon on Belsches Road near Bagby Road. The driver, 72-year-old William Martin, is in critical condition at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.

 

The NBC29 newsroom received the following release from the Virginia State Police:

Shortly after 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, Virginia State Police responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on Route 618, Belsches Road approximately 1/10 of a mile west of Route 634, Bagby Road in Louisa County.

The crash occurred when the driver of a 2010 Toyota Prius ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle was heading westbound on Route 618 at the time of the crash. The driver, who was wearing his safety belt, was flown by med-flight to Mary Washington Hospital in the City of Fredericksburg with serious life-threatening injuries.

The passenger, who was wearing her safety belt, died at the scene. The Louisa County Sheriff's Office assisted with the on-going state police investigation.
