Monticello and Montpelier are teaming up to bring more tourism dollars to the area. Today both organizations, along with the Charlottesville Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau, detailed the Presidents Passport program.
The marketing plan is designed to draw more tourists to the area starting in January of 2012. Both hope to cash in on a new Smithsonian / Monticello exhibition opening in Washington DC.
Ann Taylor of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation said, "Our dollars go farther when we collaborate. And what other community has the home of three presidents, and incredible 20 wineries, an artisan trail, a vibrant music scene -so it's going to be more effective by our working together."
Presidents Passport is supported by more than $180,000 in marketing partnership spending. It is also supported by a $50,000 Virginia Tourism Corporation grant.
