Quilters unite in downtown Charlottesville to show off some of their best work.
When people hear about CitySpace on the downtown mall in Charlottesville they think about business luncheons or seminars. Most don't know the Piedmont Council for the Arts has an art gallery upstairs.
This week they are showcasing the work of a group of nine woman who started quilting together 10 years ago. They wanted to start a program to get to know their neighbors better and with the help of Vice Mayor Holly Edwards, they found a quilting teacher who taught them how to quilt from square one.
Sarah Lawson, the programs and communications director at Piedmont Council for the Arts, said, "They got sewing machines donated, got fabric donated and they've been meeting once a week ever since to work on their quilts."
The gallery has been up and running since July and plans to host artists like the quilters as they settle into their new home at CitySpace.
If you want to check the gallery out on your lunch break or just while your strolling the mall, the gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
