The Landmark Hotel project on Charlottesville's downtown mall could move forward in early 2012.

Halsey Minor will face a bankruptcy judge in federal court on January 12. If he can prove to the judge he has a plan in place, work on the hotel could restart in March.

Minor is working with a new developer, Dixon Development, on the hotel project. If the judge signs off on a preliminary plan next month, a finalized plan must be submitted within 60 days. If approved, work on the 11-story building can start again in mid-March.

City hall insiders predict the work could be done within nine months.

Morgan MacKenzie-Perkins of the Downtown Business Association said, "It's just an eyesore down here on the mall and I think that it's time for those guys to start playing nice in the sandbox and get something done."

Earlier this month, a circuit court judge found that Minor still owed $2.7 million in bills to the general contractor. The original lender is owed $13 million and the city more than $128,000 in back taxes.

We did reach out to Halsey Minor and the new developer, but neither returned the calls. Minor has said all along that the hotel will be built.
