Lee Park Vandalism 'Occupy Will Rise Again'

Posted: Updated:

Charlottesville police are searching for vandals who spray painted a message about Occupy Charlottesville on a statue in the park protesters were kicked out of.

Someone painted a graffiti message "occupy will rise again" on the Robert E. Lee statue in Lee Park. The park was home to Occupy Charlottesville for several weeks until police broke up the encampment earlier this month.

Charlottesville Mayor Dave Norris said, "I hope the level of civil discourse improves and that we can move beyond some of the ugliness, and this is, in my mind, one more manifestation of that ugliness that surrounded this whole endeavor."

Officers got word of the vandalism around 3:00 Sunday afternoon, but they're not sure when it happened. If you have any information that could help investigators, call Crimestoppers at 434-977-4000.
